The ability to transfer a DigiScope computer forensics software license depends upon the license type;

PROJECT BASED LICENSES

Project Based store licenses are tied to the internal unique identifiers (DNA) of the Exchange database/store EDB files.

  • Once an Exchange EDB database is licensed, that license can be used against any backup/point in time copy AND the production version of that database
  • Once a Project Based license is applied it may not be transferred to another database/store under any circumstance
  • You can use your license on multiple machines

PERPETUAL LICENSES

 Perpetual DigiScope computer forensics software licenses are tied to the internal unique identifiers (DNA) of the Exchange database/store EDB files.

  • Once a database is licensed, that license can be used against any backup/point in time copy AND the production version of that database
  • Once a license is applied to a database/store it is considered used and may not be transferred, migrated or used on any other database/information store
  • You can use your license on multiple machines
  • EXCHANGE SERVER UPGRADE EXEMPTION: We don't want  to add another stumbling block to the already painful, costly and time-consuming upgrade process. Therefore we have implemented a one-time exception for customers that;
    • Have an up to date and in force Support & Maintenance agreement
    • Are upgrading to a newer version of Exchange and discontinuing use of the previously licensed version of Exchange
    • Do not need to access the previously licensed databases after completing the upgrade to the new version of Exchange

NOTE: Keep in mind that after completing this process you will be unable to access historical copies of the previously licensed databases. If your organization will need access to the previously licensed databases you may want to consider purchasing additional licenses so that you can utilize DigiScope computer forensics software against the old and new Exchange Databases/Stores.

      License Transfer Example

  • Customer purchased and applied a "Perpetual" 4 store count / license pack to their existing Production Exchange Server
  • Existing Exchange Server is migrated to newer version of Exchange
  • Old Exchange server is decommissioned i.e. wiped out and is no longer accessible
  • Customer opens case with support and request the License Transfer Agreement.
  • License Transfer Agreement is completed, signed by a corporate executive and returned to Lucid8 for processing.
  • Lucid8 releases/frees up the existing licenses and notifies customer
  • Customer requests and obtains licenses for new Exchange Server databases.

UNIVERSAL LICENSES

  • Universal Licenses: This license is tied to a specific machine and can open all Offline & Production databases without limitation. Universal licenses cannot be used on more than one machine at a time, however it can be transferred to any machine after being revoked from the existing licensed machine by following the step-by-step instructions to Revoke/Transfer the Universal License.
